Ultimately,
the existing Hatfield-McCoy Trails system in West Virginia is expected to
connect with the sKYward trails system in Kentucky and with a similar
trail system that will be developed in southwestern Virginia.
Together, the three state projects will provide more than 5,000
miles of trail in a combined area of more than 12,000 square miles (almost
8 million acres).
It will be the largest trail system of its kind in the world.
This
expansion will be accomplished by applying the same basic trail-system
concept that underlies the Hatfield-McCoy Trails to the developing trail
systems in Kentucky and Virginia.
